Google has stepped back from the initial plan of the proposed changes. Now users are given another option to have a free account.  

Earlier this year, Google announced the closure of the free G Suite Legacy accounts. Distributed over ten years ago when Google started; the Google applications including Gmail were free. After this announcement accounts involved had to choose whether to lose access to the service or switch to a paid subscription.   

In the past few hours, the software giant has provided one more option: transfer to a free personal account.  

Google explains that by switching to the free subscription, any custom domain will remain active. You will be able to access all Workspace apps and services in addition to the various Google apps. Your purchase history will remain intact. However, 24/7 help and technical support services are unavailable for a personal account. The available drive space is 15 GB instead of 30, and if you are a company, it is not a viable option.  

Google has given the timeline to its users; till June 27 to make their choice. The company ensures that if users opt for a free personal account and then switch to a paid subscription. They will still get discount offers.   

The company also claims corporate account holders can also switch to a free account – as long as the transition took place after January 19, 2022.  

For those who missed a few steps, it is worth remembering that G Suite is the old name of Google Workspace. So far Microsoft has dominated the global market. However, tables are turning in for of company as Google is providing free account options compared to Microsoft Office Suite. The company’s web and cloud-based apps are alternatives and a competitor against Microsoft Office 365.
