According to a new analysis from email security firms, Ransomware assaults have never been more prevalent. 

 

According to the notice, new ransomware organisations emerge on a regular basis. Moreover, new vulnerabilities being exploited are identified practically daily, however, Microsoft’s products are being targeted the most.

 

In summary, attackers are currently targeting over 7,000 goods manufactured by 121 suppliers. All of which are used by enterprises in their daily operations. According to the researchers, the majority of Microsoft’s products have 135 vulnerabilities connected with ransomware. There is a comprehensive MITRE ATT&CK death chain for 59 vulnerabilities, including two brand-new weaknesses. Furthermore, the research, antivirus software fail to detect eighteen weaknesses.

 

More ransomware organisations

There were more breaches recorded in March 2023 than in the preceding three years combined. It’s also worth noting that the vast majority of cybersecurity events go unreported. The researchers uncovered 12 new vulnerabilities utilised in ransomware attacks in the first quarter of the year, with th73% trending on the dark web. 

The number of vulnerabilities revealed in open-source software (OSS) is also increasing. With 119 weaknesses related to ransomware assaults being identified. The researchers determined that several businesses are using OSS and this is an “extremely pressing concern.” 

 

Ever since DEV-0569 and Karakurt entered the game, 52 organisations have been involved in ransomware assaults.

According to the Chief Product Officer of Ivanti, once AI is employed at scale, hacks will become much more lethal. 

We are only now beginning to see threat actors using AI to mount their attacks. As polymorphic malware attacks and offensive computing copilots become a reality, the situation will only worsen. While it has not yet been observed in the field, it is only a matter of time before ransomware developers employ AI to broaden the range of vulnerabilities and exploits available.
